Events

Seminars

From September until May we have a weekly seminar series; recent seminars can be viewed on PIRSA https://pirsa.org/s007. Group members can contact the current group admin about registering to give a talk. Group lunch is held after the retreat in the bistro each week (conveniently timed to coincide with burger day at the bistro).

Kick-off day

In September or October of each year we host a 1 day event welcoming new students and postdocs to the group. New members give short talks, we break into discussion groups, and cap it off with an evening social. Entering members are welcome to contact the group admin about registering for the kick-off.

Retreat

In January or February each year there is a 1 week, off-site, research retreat hosted by the QI group. We typically have some quantum matter, gravity, or foundations projects with a QI component as well. This is an opportunity for group members to dive into a new project with new collaborators, or to hole up for a week and finish that long overdue paper.

Some papers which got their start at the retreat include:

• Entanglement sharing schemes
• Conditional disclosure of secrets with quantum resources
• Contextuality from the vacuum
• A Formalization of the Generalized Quantum Stein’s Lemma in Lean

Conferences

Each year there are a few quantum info conferences at Perimeter. Group members are able to propose events (ask a faculty about how). Some past conferences include

• Physics of Quantum Information I
• Physics of Quantum Information II
• It from Qubit 2023
• It from Qubit 2016
• QIQG 2025
• QPV 2023

Arcade tournament

A Perimeter QI Christmas tradition is the arcade game tournament, typically held at Pin-up Arcade bar. Past tournament results are below. Congrats to past winners Kelly (2024), Braden (2025), and Yaroslav (2026).
